题解:该题在2010年和 2014年的雅思考试中均出现过,看到题目,考查的题点在于“works in art museums and galleries”以及“works in computers”,接下来需要考生一分为二地思考。
1.if people see historical objects by using a computer, how much convenience does it bring to the visitors?
2.The importance of art museum and gallery
我们很容易将museum与之前剑桥母题中的“old building”存在的意义这类题目想匹配,那么文章很自然就可以成型了。
We live in the era of computer and Information Technology and with the tap of the finger, we can get virtually any information we need. The recent technology of 3D presentations and the 360-degree views make the imagination of sitting in front of a computer and getting a glimpse of the whole world heritage come true. This fire up the debate whether we really need to have public places like museum, art galleries or establishments like these as people can easily view and know about historic objects and artworks using a computer. Personally, I quite disagree with the given notion and believe that technology cannot replace the existence of art museum and gallery.
It is admitted that seeing historical objects and masterpieces by using a mouse and clicking it with our fingers, we can appreciate those historical heritage all over the world at home. It is actually convenient for those who are preoccupied with their work or study and don’t have time to travel or those who live far from art museums or galleries. Nevertheless, we cannot undermine the importance of those legacy left for many decades.
To begin with, museums and art galleries offer first-hand experience to the audiences and viewers and represent the history, tradition and important artworks of a country. The computer-based information of an important historic work or object can never do the same. Online information about any particular artwork or historic object is a great way to learn about it but it can never be compared with the human experience of observing them personally.
Furthermore, they are historical heritages which have been passed through one after another generation from our ancestors. They serve as landmarks of a country andembody aesthetic and cultural identity, such as the Forbidden City in China or the British Museum in Britain. We, human beings, are not justified to undermine their significance to a country or a civilisation.
In addition, museums and art galleries have great attractions among tourists and their online version can never actually generate a huge revenue that a real museums or art gallery would do. Children of schools might enjoy learning about arts, history etc online but unless they personally witness those, they will never become enthusiastic about history and art.
In conclusion, online presentation of historic places and artworks is a good way of letting people learn more about them but it is quite unrealistic that they would replace the real establishment of museums or art galleries around the world.
